This is a long overdue post delayed by memory card issues and other 'technical' glitches. YAWN ;). Anyway, this is the final segment of our Goa trip in August. We travelled one way by train and it was beautiful. The Konkan route is one of the most scenic railway routes in India.
Our trip had a rocky start. We had bookings at the Casablanca Hotel in Candolim and our worst nightmare for any vacation came true. This "highly rated" place was poorly maintained with dismal management. The place was swarming with mosquitoes and bees. The staff, though polite initially, soon turned hostile when questioned about the bugs. They flatly denied having a bug issue despite the proof. They offered no assistance even when our friends' child (a toddler) was stung by a bee. Cleartrip also offered no help and refused to refund any money (we had a booking for four nights), after haggling with us for hours.
The bees next to our room. Anyway, the crux of the story is DO NOT book a room in this place.
We soon moved to a hotel named Pirache Art Hotel in Calangute. This was a beautiful little place. Well maintained with a very well-mannered staff (especially house-keeping).
I love it when hotel rooms have spacious balconies and this one did :D. I forgot to take a pic of the room itself but trust me it was good. So, if you are looking for a budget hotel in North Goa with good rooms and a very nice pool, this may be the place to go.
From here on our vacation was dreamlike.
