Mini Journal - DIY Gift Idea

Helllllooooo! Today I'll be making a mini journal. This is perfect as a DIY gift idea for all those friends out there who love to write.

From the mood board at Peek-a-boo Designs I chose

Colour - Shades of blue, bright green and grey.

Embellishments - Rhinestones and pearls, golden ribbon as a page marker.

Pattern - Chevron Washi tape.

Materials Required

• 12 sheets of white paper measuring 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 inches - and folded in half to make a notebook. A piece of yarn and needle to sew the pages.
• A dark blue handmade paper cut to size - 6 X 9 inches
• A piece of pattern paper sized 3 3/4 X 5 1/2 inches
• A piece of acetate, gold embossing powder and Versamark.
• Washi tape, yarn, rhinestones, metal beads and any other embellishments you like.

Method

1. Make your notebook by folding all the white sheets of paper in half and sewing them to make two signatures. Stick those two together with some mod Podge. Apply a generous coat. Let it dry.

2. Meanwhile take your dark blue handmade paper and fold it in half. Pierce a hole in the middle and pass three pieces of yarn through it. I used one coir yarn, one green yarn and one black ribbon. Braid the three pieces and tie it at the end to secure. This will be the closure for the journal in the end. 

3. Add a piece of golden ribbon as shown. This will be the book mark for the journal. Now pierce two holes vertical at the top of the paper and pass a silver bead through it for embellishment. 

4. Now take a piece of pattern paper and apply Versamark all over it. Sprinkle clear embossing powder generously over it. Remove the excess and heat set it. I hope you can see the glossiness of the paper.

5. Take a piece of acetate and stamp your sentiment on it with Versamark. Now add gold embossing powder on it and heat set it. Stick it to the pattern paper. Add some Washi tape on the acetate as shown. Now stick the pattern paper to a piece of dark blue handmade paper folded in half. 

6. Add rhinestones to the top of the page and some Washi tape on the side. I used a chevron black and white one. Now take dusty concord and chipped sapphire distress inks and blend on a small piece of card stock. Add a metal frame embellishment and some pearls on it. Attach this  small card stock using a mini wooden cloth peg. Add some cloth flowers to the spine and some flower punch cutouts to the acetate. 

7. Stick the booklet that you made to the handmade paper that you decorated using some card paper. 

8. Emboss some more mini cardstocks and adhere them inside the booklet to give a journal like feel.
